Why it matters that our local town government stays open and honest

When we think about politics, we usually think about big decisions made far away. But the decisions that actually change our day-to-day lives—like how much we pay in property taxes, how our neighborhoods are built, and the condition of our local parks and roads—happen right here in our own town.

That is why it is so important for our local town hall to be completely open with us.

Being open isn't just about following rules. It is about building a better relationship with the people who live here. Here is why it matters so much:

  • It builds real trust: When town decisions or budget changes happen in secret, people naturally start to worry. Sharing meeting notes and explaining why decisions are made takes away the mystery and helps everyone feel secure.

  • It tracks our hard-earned money: Our town runs on the tax dollars we pay. We have every right to see exactly where that money goes, whether it is fixing potholes, funding community centers, or paying for emergency services. Open math stops money from being wasted.

  • It helps us build a better town together: When information is easy to find online, it is much easier for all of us to stay informed. This means we can give better feedback during public meetings, helping our leaders make choices that actually fit what our neighborhood needs.

An honest town hall doesn’t just share the good news—it shares the whole process, making all of us partners in shaping our community's future.

Have you noticed your local town hall doing a good job of keeping you in the loop lately? Let me know in the comments!
